Rules for Sliding Rock Recreation Area.
Sliding Rock is hugely popular, and very busy during the summer. Being familiar with the rules of operation will help avoid disappointment on your visit. Read the rules below and you will know what to expect on your visit.
1. All sliders should know how to swim - the pool at the bottom of the slide is deep. Children under 7 years old must slide with an adult. Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are allowed. You must slide in a seated position. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult in the recreation area.
2. The Sliding Rock Recreational area does not support picnics, and glass containers and alcoholic beverages are prohibited there. Pets must be on a leash in the recreation area, and they may not enter the water. Fishing is not allowed in the pool or on sliding rock. There are no hiking trails that leave from the Sliding Rock Recreation area.
3. There is parking for about 100 cars and 4 buses. Groups are limited in size to 50, and group leaders must contact personnel at the fee gate prior to unloading and they must supervise their group at all times. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. When the lot is full, several cars are allowed into the area to move into parking spots that become available. When there are more cars than can wait practically in the lot, the recreation area personnel will close the lot to additional traffic. Only 4 buses are allowed as there is limited bus parking. Groups are encouraged to arrive before 11:00 AM or after 4:00 PM.
4. The fee to enter the Sliding Rock Recreation Area is one dollar per person over 6 years old. Inter-agency passes allow the passholder a fifty cent discount to the site. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day there are lifeguards generally on duty between the hours of 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM. During these hours the rest rooms and changing rooms are also open. The lifeguards will close the sliding rock to use in the event of unsafe weather or water conditions. Report serious injuries to a lifeguard.
